Marine engines operate in one of the harshest environments imaginable. Saltwater corrosion, continuous high-load operation, heavy fuel residues, and extreme temperature variations all place enormous demands on marine lubricants.

Marine engine oils must address several unique challenges

Cylinder Oils: Large two-stroke crosshead engines use cylinder oils with high TBN (Total Base Number) values — typically 40 to 100 mg KOH/g — to neutralize the sulfuric acid produced by burning high-sulfur fuels. Our marine cylinder oils range from ISO VG 460 to VG 1500 for this purpose.

Trunk Piston Engine Oils (TPEO): Medium-speed four-stroke engines use trunk piston oils that must handle soot, provide anti-wear protection, and resist oxidation during extended service intervals. Our SAE 15W-40, 20W-50, 30, and 40 grades are formulated specifically for these demanding applications.

Two-Stroke Outboard Oils: Small marine engines require TC-W3 certified oils that provide excellent lubricity while minimizing carbon buildup and spark plug fouling. Our MARINE 2T oils meet and exceed these requirements.

The maritime industry is also transitioning to low-sulfur fuels under IMO 2020 regulations, which has created new lubrication challenges that modern marine oils must address.
